ASMP Honors FotoFest Founders

Philadelphia, PA... The Board of Directors of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) has designated photographer journalists Frederick Baldwin and Wendy Watriss, founders of FotoFest, as Honorary Members of the Society for their extraordinary contributions to the world of photography. FotoFest, based in Houston, Texas, is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote the exchange of art and ideas through international programs and the presentation of photographic art.

According to ASMP President Richard Kelly, "ASMP's Board voted overwhelmingly to award this well-deserved lifetime honor to Wendy and Fred, who have done so much to bring people together globally, and who have helped so many photographers advance their careers. It is our way of thanking them for their years of tireless work on behalf of the photography community." The FotoFest Biennial is a platform for ideas and discovery in which priority is given to the works of important but little known photographic artists. ASMP, the premier trade association for photographers who create images primarily for publication, has been a FotoFest Biennial Sponsor and programming contributor over the years. In addition to its well-known photographic Biennials, FotoFest also offers year-round art and educational exhibitions and a variety of events.

Founded in 1944, ASMP is the leader in promoting photographers' rights, providing education in better business practices, producing business publications for photographers, and helping to connect purchasers with professional photographers. ASMP has 39 chapters across the country and its members include many of the world's foremost photographers.
